WahooFound worldwide in tropical and warm temperate seas, the wahoo travels in small groups of 2 to 6 fish. The wahoo is famous for its super-fast runs and its razor-sharp set of dentures. Unlike most other members of the tuna family, this sleek fish is long and slender rather than short and chunky. Fishermen know the wahoo for its strong fighting ability and appreciate it for its excellent table fare.Wahoo eat other fish almost exclusively and examination of stomach contents after landing a wahoo will usually reveal squid, small tunas, mackerel, sardines, small dorado and flying fish. The wahoo is a beautiful steel blue when alive; the body is accented with 25 to 30 blackish-blue vertical bars. They can reach weights of 100 pounds although fish of over 80 pounds are not too common. |
